Strengthening Regional Feminist Movements Convergence 2017 Highlights
The annual regional convergence in South Asia, was organised from July 14-16 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The convergence was attended by over 100 grantee partners and allies working to further women’s and trans* rights in South Asia, and was the largest one we have ever hosted. The convergence aimed at understanding the current wave of ‘right wing’ politics, ‘democracy’ and ‘human rights’; the impact of ‘right wing’ politics on feminist and trans* rights and organising and the strengths and challenges in asserting and claiming identities. There were also vibrant debates around intersectionality within the women’s rights movements.
A Feminist Regional Convergence for Collective Reflection and Strategising March 2016
The South Asia feminist regional convergence was held in Kathmandu, Nepal in March 2016. We brought together feminist activists, practitioners, academics, lawyers, donors and other experts from all over South Asia to collectively imagine what a feminist South Asia would look like and how to get there. This is the highlights video of the convergence.
Melinda Gates, Kalki Koechlin and Suneeta Dhar on She The People
Suneeta Dhar, founder-director of Women’s Fund Asia, talks about equality at work place, unpaid care work, and much more on 'She The People'! She speaks about women's engagement in multiple livelihoods, which somehow is not captured all the time in the national statistics, and remains undercounted, undervalued. She goes on to speak about how 'policies are informed by a patriarchal lens' and that 'women are actually subsidising the state.'
